Well, it's the thought that counts

I was in Siesta Key Florida shortly before Shawn's birthday one year. So I went shopping for his gift while I was there. In this funky little shop I found what I thought was a very cool shark tooth fossil. It was approximately the size of my palm. It had a neat color and texture and I thought that Shawn would totally think it was as cool as I thought it was. I picked up some other items for him as well, but I thought the tooth would take the cake - for sure. When I returned home I wrapped the gifts I'd choosen for him taking extra special care to wrap the tooth separately in a little box with tissue - like it was a little treasure:) He could tell I was on pins and needles when he opened it and that only seemed to add to the anticipation. He finally got it out of the tissue paper and he stared at it blankly. I began to tell him all about the shop I found it in and how cool I thought it was and how I was sure he would like it. All the while he's turning it over carefully in his hand. Finally he looks at me and says, "Well, it's the thought that counts." I'm all "What?! Don't you think it's cool?" He just smiled and opened the remainder of his gift (which I can't even remember what it was because I was so hung up on how cool I thought the tooth was). The neat thing about this little episode though is this...Even though he didn't share my excitement about the tooth, he always kept it. I remember seeing it on his desk. That's Shawn...I gave it to him and he knew I was excited about it. So not only did he keep it, he kept it where he could see it and be reminded by it. Thanks Shawnie:)
