From Shawn this week: “Great weather here, never really changes much all year. Not much new, I'm learning how to speak Chinese, and Dinosaur; frankly, there's not much difference between them. I'm planning on winning the lotto in the next few months” My friend Shawn - Goofball, nut and a healer I said to him: “So think we can do 3 flips and two spins off the diving board in our back yard pool?” His reply: “Sure, why not, belly flops aren’t that bad.” I asked him: “So think we should lean this ladder up against the house that’s too short to reach the top and we’ll just jump the last few feet?” His reply – “Sure, we can jump that far and it isn’t that far to fall if we miss.” I suggested to him: So think we should try out and be Lafollette high school’s first male cheerleaders in 20 years? His reply – “Sure, we got courage and man those girls are cute.” I called him up, I think this scuba thing sounds fun I think we should try it out? His reply – “Sure, sign us up, we swim really good.” I shouted to him, boy we love this scuba thing, think we should become instructors? His reply – “Sure, would be fun, how hard can it be.” I emailed him, want to travel to strange places, throw ourselves in the water, try new food and see what’s there? His reply – “Sure, adventure is great and bad food we can spit out.” You’re clearly seeing the trend. He was always ready to try. The world asked him, “Can you join our military and make us strong and protect us?” His reply – “Sure, my shoulders are strong and my sense of duty is fierce.” The world asked him, Can you join the world’s best hospitals and take care of injuries and pain? His reply – “Sure, rub some dirt on it, here is a Band-Aid, you’ll be fine, now smile.” The world asked him, “Can you make your friends laugh and think in new ways?” His reply – “Sure, I always got a great joke, a great story, fun safety pins and a crazy new idea.” The world asked him, Can you care for the children in the darkest of times? His reply – “Sure, smiles are easy and kids are great.” He traveled, he explored, defended our country, made us laugh, put on band aids and healed our children. He will be missed. As for me, now I have to learn to speak dinosaur.
